Newark City Council approved the consent agenda on Oct. 27 on a unanimous vote. The consent agenda items included receipt of minutes from the Community Development Revenue Sharing Advisory Committee (Oct. 7) and the Conservation Advisory Commission (Sept. 9); approval of the Oct. 6 city council meeting minutes; approval of a nuisance abatement plan for 45 North Chapel Street; and first reading of Bill 25‑26, which would amend city building and fire safety code sections.
The staff summary for Bill 25‑26 described multiple changes including reverting permit application and permit expiration timelines to 180 days, removing the contractor performance bond requirement for licensing, modifying fire‑safety registration requirements related to home occupations and mobile food vendors, creating a temporary change‑of‑use fire safety permit, clarifying recreational fire rules and adding exemptions to fire sprinkler requirements. The ordinance was set for second reading on Nov. 10.
A motion to approve the consent agenda passed by voice vote with all council members voting aye (6–0).
