County staff presented a county‑specific resolution and a separate template that could be circulated to other Minnesota counties. The county previously joined the Minnesota Nuclear Energy Alliance and staff said the resolution would formalize Sherburne County’s position and encourage other counties to adopt similar resolutions.
Commissioners discussed timing and related outreach. Several commissioners said the issue is long‑term and important to securing baseload generation; one commissioner said nuclear projects can take a decade or more to develop and that counties should prepare now. The board voted to approve the resolution and the outreach plan.
Commissioner Felber moved to approve the resolution and to send the template to other counties; Commissioner Danialowski seconded. The motion carried on an affirmative voice vote. The board also noted a planned workshop on base load power will be scheduled in November or early December for further discussion.
