City reports strong response to Reindeer Rush passport program; announces 'Extraordinary Women' nominations

City staff told the council that the Reindeer Rush holiday passport program — designed to drive customers to small businesses — had strong participation and measurable foot traffic benefits for downtown merchants. Staff said 28 businesses participated, more than 200 passport books were distributed, and 108 passport books were returned; the tally of stamps suggested roughly 2,029 store visits during the program and several businesses reported boosted sales.
Staff also announced the return of the Tehachapi 'Extraordinary Women' recognition program for Women’s History Month, saying organizers had received more than 40 nominations within a short period and planned to select up to three honorees. Staff asked Mayor Pro Tem Powell to again serve on the selection committee.
Councilors praised staff for creative business outreach and community engagement and encouraged continuation and expansion of similar promotions in other seasons. Staff said they will coordinate with the Chamber of Commerce and participating merchants.
