Fountain Green City Council approved an extension of a conditional-use permit for Joseph and Heather Papenfuss at its Jan. 9 meeting, allowing the family to inhabit the existing dwelling while continuing construction of a new home on the same parcel.
The Planning Commission had examined progress on the build and reported multiple construction milestones completed in 2024 (inspections passed, drywall, mudding, stair railings, wood stove and tile, basement ceiling work). The Planning Commission recommended the extension with three conditions: continue construction on the new house in the current year, ensure the existing house is vacated when the new house is finished, and consider whether another renewal may be necessary. Council moved and seconded the extension and recorded affirmative roll-call votes from councilmembers (Carrie, Allison, Rod, Kim and Jacob).
