The South Madison Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees unanimously approved a set of contracts and salary adjustments at its regular meeting.
The administration requested and the board approved a contract with McGibbon Demographic Research LLC to conduct a demographic study through the 2035–2036 school year. Business manager Mike McCarty told trustees the firm is used by several districts and that the proposed package — including an in‑person presentation — totals $7,600. The motion to approve carried on a roll-call vote with all trustees voting yes.
Trustees also ratified a tentative two‑year contract with the South Madison Classroom Teachers Association (SMCTA). Superintendent Dr. Hall presented the agreement, describing it as the tentative agreement previously discussed at the prior hearing and asked the board to approve the two‑year contract. Tammy Smith, president of the SMCTA, addressed the board after the vote was moved, thanking administration and the bargaining team and saying the parties worked together to arrive at an agreement: "Everybody is there for the same reason. We are there to do what's best for South Madison Community Schools," she told the board. The ratification passed on a unanimous vote.
The board approved adjustments to the non‑certified (support staff) salary schedule that parallel the teacher contract. Business manager McCarty said most support positions will receive a 2% increase while some positions will receive 1.5%, reflecting the framework applied to the teacher agreement. Trustees approved the non‑certified schedule unanimously.
Administrative contract compensation was adjusted as well. Superintendent Dr. Hall told the board the recommendation was not for lengthening contracts but for a 1.5% compensation increase on previously extended administrative contracts. Trustees approved that adjustment on a unanimous vote.
Other routine items on the consent agenda — approval of minutes from the prior regular meeting, accounts payable vouchers and grouped items 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 — were approved by the board without separate discussion. The meeting concluded after communications from the board and adjournment.
During board comments following approvals, trustees offered praise for teachers and district staff. One trustee noted the importance of hiring strong teachers and thanked staff for their work in classrooms.
