Kossuth County adopts resolution to install stop sign at Swea City entrance

The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 28 adopted Resolution 10‑28‑25‑01 to establish a stop sign on the county route entering Swea City at 80th Avenue and Ash Avenue East.
County roads staff told the board the city council in Swea City had already acted to request placement of the stop sign and that county passage would provide concurrent jurisdiction so the sign and any enforcement had clear authority. "The city council has already acted on it. I think ... it would be appropriate for the board of supervisors then to pass the same resolution," staff said.
Supervisors discussed the rationale and limits of the proposal. One supervisor said installing the sign was intended to slow traffic on a heavily traveled east–west route but noted that "ultimately, it comes to, even if the sign is up, it still takes enforcement to make those drivers obey the laws," a county law‑enforcement concern echoed by staff.
Motion to adopt the resolution was made by Supervisor Wagner and seconded by Supervisor Garman. The resolution passed on a roll call; supervisors present voted in favor. The board directed Secondary Roads staff to place the sign and to report back when installation is complete.
