Future Forward program at regional juvenile detention center outlines student outcomes and grant funding

A representative for Franklin County Schools' Future Forward Education and Career Center told the board the district provides education services at the Fayette Regional Juvenile Detention Center under partnerships with the Kentucky Educational Collaborative for State Agency Children (KECSAC) and the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). The representative said the program has operated at the facility since August 2020 and is 100% grant-funded through KECSAC, DJJ and Title I, Part D.
The representative reported outcomes for the past year and the current term: five students earned high school diplomas through the program; two students completed a full GED through the site (the district is an official GED testing center); nine additional students passed at least one GED Ready test and continued elsewhere to complete the GED; and current enrollment stood at 139 students to date in the school year.
Program features and recognition
Staff said the program has received exemplary ratings in state reviews and is sometimes asked to share its model with other programs. The representative noted community partners assisted with a "reality fair" that taught financial literacy and problem-solving skills during extended school days; the district also arranged student participation in an art exhibit that travels statewide.
Why it matters
The Future Forward program provides education to adjudicated youth in a detention setting and reports measurable credentialing outcomes (diplomas and GED completions). Because the program is fully grant-funded, the district said it depends on continued KECSAC/DJJ and Title I, Part D funding for operations.
