City reports uptick in permits; staff highlights fire-prevention activity and neighborhood services

Council discussion included a reported increase in traffic on Memory Lane. One councilmember said, "Traffic on a memory lane has gone up tenfold. That was Really? Oh my god. Compared to 5 years ago," reflecting members' concerns about traffic volumes.
City staff and the mayor discussed the fire department's outreach during Fire Prevention Month and its school roadshow. Staff said the department is not currently under a burn ban but that approvals for burning are sometimes tightened when conditions are dry or windy. "While we may not be under a burn ban, I will say at times, we do take liberties as to what we will and will not approve as it relates to burning if it is particularly dry," City staff said.
Other routine items included praise for neighborhood services and facilities management for small maintenance projects and the convenience of vehicle registration services at city hall. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn that carried by voice vote.
During the session no ordinance or budget vote was taken on these topics; staff said some items will return on future agendas if formal action is required.
