City announces playground revitalization groundbreaking, State of the City address and community events

Parks and recreation staff said the State of the City address is tomorrow (sold out), and announced a groundbreaking Oct. 9 for the Santa Fe Springs Park playground revitalization that will replace wood chips with poured-in-place rubber; staff also promoted a weekend community festival.
Gus Hernandez, the city’s parks and recreation director, briefed the council on upcoming events and park improvements. He said the State of the City address will be held tomorrow at Town Center Hall and that the event is sold out.
Hernandez announced a groundbreaking ceremony for the Santa Fe Springs Park playground revitalization on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. He said this project replaces the park’s wood-chip surfacing with poured-in-place rubber and thanked the public-works department for the playground design.
Hernandez also promoted a three-day community event beginning with a dinner on Friday evening and continued programming Saturday and Sunday at Los Nietos Park (dates and times were provided during the presentation). The presentation was informational; no council action was required.
