The City of Evansville Tree Advisory Board voted unanimously June 5 to remove a list of street trees identified as “structurally dead or dying” and to remove several hazardous trees in city parks, with a 2-for-1 replacement plan for park removals.
Board Chair Sarah (full name not specified in transcript) opened the discussion on street-tree removals and asked staff to summarize. Sean (staff member) said the trees proposed for removal were “structurally dead or dying or structurally weak” and that property owners and neighborhood associations had been notified. Larry (board member) moved to approve removal of the street trees; Paul Bausman (Parks staff) seconded the motion. The board voted in favor.
Later in the meeting, Paul Bausman described three park removals: a dead eastern white pine at Lorraine Park near the baby pool; a large oak removed after a storm that created a hazard; and a black walnut in Jacobsville Park with considerable dieback. He also said two small trees at Teepee Park sit where a new splash pad will be built and that the parks department had planted multiple trees nearby last fall. Bausman said the parks plan is to replace the removed park trees at a ratio of two new trees for every one removed. Bausman made the motion to remove the park trees; Larry seconded. The board voted in favor.
The board recorded no oppositions during the roll calls. No other formal conditions or amendments to the removal motions were recorded in the transcript. The board moved on to other agenda items after the votes.
