The Governmental Operations Standing Committee voted to forward ordinance 2025-136 to the full council with a recommendation to approve. The ordinance would repeal sections of city code concerning classifications of council liaisons, a council policy analyst, a council budget analyst and a council public relations specialist, and would amend city code to provide for appointment by the council chief of staff.
The committee opened a public hearing on the ordinance; no members of the public spoke for or against the item and the public hearing was closed. A committee member moved to advance the ordinance to the full body; a second was recorded. The committee then voted: Vice Chair Aberbacher — Aye; Chair Jordan — Aye. The motion passed and the paper will go to the full council for consideration.
Committee discussion characterized the ordinance as an administrative change intended to align council chief-of-staff hiring practice with other appointed offices and to reduce public vetting for routine human-resources appointments. No amendments or additional conditions were recorded in the committee vote.
