Procurement staff and district leaders said Region 1 cooperatives are structured to give the district bargaining leverage and that some items are legally required data-management systems.
Superintendent and procurement staff said they were already reviewing contracts for cost savings. The district reported that internal reviews over the previous two days identified more than $750,000 in potential savings by not renewing certain items. Trustees directed administration to return with itemized usage and expiration dates and to present plans to reduce duplicative subscriptions and consultant services where feasible.
