The Chandler Unified School District governing board authorized the drafting and issuance of a request for quotes (RFQ) to hire an external superintendent search firm following the announced pending retirement of the current superintendent effective June 2026.
Board members discussed timelines, procurement logistics and the need for a firm experienced with pre‑K–12 executive searches in Arizona. Procurement and business‑services staff said they are preparing a draft RFQ and will circulate it to the board for review at a special meeting before the RFQ is posted publicly. The board asked staff to ensure the RFQ asks prospective firms to propose a realistic timeline for candidate recruitment and screening.
Trustees emphasized the board’s role in setting search priorities and in reviewing vendor proposals and candidate pools. After staff explained the standard procurement steps — RFQ issuance, vendor responses, board review and selection of firms to interview candidates — the board voted unanimously to direct staff to issue the RFQ and to return proposals for trustee consideration.
Board members and staff noted that a successful search will include public‑facing outreach steps (candidate surveys, stakeholder input, interviews) and that the timeline will depend on the firm selected and market conditions. Staff advised that the board will have additional meetings and opportunities to review RFQ language before release and to approve the search firm and subsequent candidate interview schedules.
