Dr. Craig Gilbert presented the item, describing the agreement as a renewal that supports parenting activities, family referrals and other family‑education programs at the Chandler Care Center. “This agreement provides $250,000 in funding to support the care center…,” Gilbert said, recommending the grant renewal for board approval.
Katie Kale, director of the Chandler Care Center, attended the meeting and answered trustee questions about program scope. Board members received clarification that First Things First is a state agency funded through the tobacco‑tax appropriation that awards regional grants. The presenter and the Care Center director also explained that funds flow to the district and are designated for the Chandler Care Center programs.
The motion to approve the annual grant renewal passed unanimously. The grant will fund services, staffing and parent‑education programs overseen by the Chandler Care Center; staff noted that other First Things First monies used for preschool scholarships are managed separately and that overall statewide First Things First allocations have fluctuated in recent years.
The approved agreement covers the period July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
