Plan Commission approves trailer‑rental permit at former DMV site with limits and cleanup deadlines

Robin (planning staff) described the site plan and said staff recommends approval with multiple conditions. Key conditions adopted by the commission include: no more than 25 rental trailers on site at any one time; semi‑trailers on the site must be removed by Aug. 1, 2025; the existing storage container must be painted by Aug. 1, 2025; trailers and vehicles must be parked in designated striped spaces; rentals are restricted to trailers only (no vehicle sales on site); trailers cannot be used for general business storage; and engineering, fire and water utility comments must be addressed.
Commission members reviewed the 2018 conditional use terms for the gym and confirmed that pavement and landscaping had been completed. Commissioners asked about trailer types and maneuverability; staff said trailers were primarily open utility trailers used for moving, landscaping and small equipment and that the parking lot (striped) offers maneuvering room with about 88 spaces. Staff and commissioners also agreed the outdoor activity area for the gym would be secured at night and equipment stored per prior conditions.
A motion to approve the conditional use permit with the stated conditions carried unanimously.
