Sunset Council approves 2025 meeting calendar and schedules Fun Days for July 11–12, 2025

At its Jan. 7 meeting the Sunset City Council approved its 2025 meeting calendar and selected dates for the city’s annual Fun Days celebration.
Office manager Sup told the council regular meetings will continue on the first and third Tuesdays of each month; because Election Day falls on Nov. 4 this year the November council meeting will be moved to Nov. 5. Councilmember Wrigley moved to approve the 2025 meeting dates; Councilmember Smalley seconded. The council approved the calendar by unanimous voice vote.
Councilmembers then discussed scheduling for the city’s Fun Days celebration. After reviewing competing dates for nearby cities and concerns about Juneteenth and July holiday conflicts, the council settled on July 11–12, 2025 (the weekend after the Fourth of July) as Fun Days. Council members noted the schedule choice has implications for vendors, staffing and the city budget; one councilmember asked staff to plan so that key personnel avoid scheduling vacations that week.
Councilmembers encouraged early planning for the event and said they will reach out to local organizers who have run car shows and other attractions in the past to coordinate vendors and awards. No formal budget appropriation for the event was made during the meeting; the council indicated the event planning and any needed budget requests will be addressed during the city’s upcoming budget process.
