Sunset swears in two new police officers; chief calls hires 'strong fit' for department

Sunset City on Jan. 7 formally swore in two new police officers during the regular council meeting.
Mayor and council administered the oath of office to Officer Brady Davis and Officer Susha (Susha) McPherson. Police Chief Jameson introduced both officers: Chief Jameson said Davis had been with the city for roughly two-and-a-half years in code enforcement and recently completed the state law enforcement academy. Chief Jameson described McPherson as a candidate who applied at the right time and "a cool fit" for a small city; he noted she speaks Russian and that her family will pin her badge and present the pin.
Chief Jameson said the hires come as the department returns toward full staffing; he told the council the department handled about 13,049 cases in 2024 and expects call volumes to continue rising. The chief also said the department is continuing an internal personnel matter that has not yet been finalized and that details will be shared with council when available.
The council and staff publicly welcomed the officers. At the meeting Mayor and council thanked departmental staff for recruitment work and expressed confidence in the new officers’ transition into patrol duties.
