An association representing providers of housing and services for older adults requested $340,000 to fund two behavioral health coaches who would provide on‑site assessments, connect residents to mental‑health services and help reduce evictions.
A presenter representing the association said affordable housing operators are seeing residents with unmet behavioral health needs — depression, hoarding and similar challenges — and that targeted coaching reduces evictions and costly downstream outcomes. She referenced a program run by the Atlanta Regional Commission and Atlanta Housing Authority that places coaches into housing to help residents access services; proponents said similar services have dramatically reduced eviction rates where deployed.
The presenter said two coaches funded at $340,000 could serve up to 13 communities, with initial demand concentrated in Fulton and DeKalb counties but potential applicability across the state.
Committee members thanked the presenter; no formal action was taken during the hearing.
