Snellville seeks $25,000 test area and plan to restore Town Green by mid-2026
Summary
City staff proposed a tested surfacing approach for the Town Green entrance—a 40-by-20-foot test and adjacent 20-by-16-foot repair—estimated at about $25,000 and targeted for completion by May–June 2026; public works will prepare a detailed cost and bid timeline.

City staff presented a Town Green revitalization plan that would test a reinforced base and soil profile at the main entrance, repair heavily impacted adjacent areas, and continue regular public-works maintenance while a longer-term plan is developed.
The proposal calls for a 40-by-20-foot test area at the entrance to be excavated and rebuilt with a granite-sand base and a plastic load-distribution matrix, topped with 4–5 inches of planting soil. A second 20-by-16-foot area adjacent to the entrance, described as heavily impacted by vehicle and foot traffic, would be addressed as part of the same work. Staff estimated the preliminary cost at about $25,000 and said a more accurate cost will be submitted to the city manager for budgeting and potential bid procedures.
"Director of public works David Mitchell can provide a more detailed report," the presentation said. Staff added that the public-works department will continue maintenance to preserve existing lawn while testing and repairs proceed. The target window for full reopening of the Town Green was described as May 2026 or June 1, 2026, depending on site-availability and contractor scheduling.
Councilmembers asked staff to pursue feasibility, a more detailed budget, and whether the work would require formal competitive bids. Staff said the scope suggests a bid process is likely and that final budgeting will come through normal staff-driven procurement routes.
No formal vote was taken; staff will return with detailed cost estimates and procurement recommendations.
