Capital committee reports progress on turf fields, John Jay press box and other facility projects

The Wappingers Central School District Capital Improvement Committee on Oct. 20 reported ongoing work on building repairs and athletic-field projects and said it expects to forward plans for the John Jay press box to state review.
Committee reports said Evans Elementary had a side panel removed and the contractor was waiting on kitchen breakers; Oak Grove Elementary projects were complete. Vassar Road Elementary's transformer switchover is planned for spring. Renovations in Ketcham's main-lobby bathrooms remained behind schedule because of a subcontractor miscommunication; the committee said it expected the work to be completed before the fall play.
Committee members said art and ceramics rooms and other renovation areas were down to punch-list items. There was concern about appliances at a Wappingers junior high home-and-careers room that had been corrected. Van Wijk (transcribed as Van Wipe) Junior High School has plans for basic retention of its current sound system with targeted upgrades in the auditorium booth, while field sound systems at Ketcham and John Jay continue to require vendor follow-up.
For 2025 projects, committee members said they are close to settling the final layout for two new turf fields and the orientation of softball fields. At Roy C. Ketcham High School the district is near a decision on the location of a multiuse field and tennis courts after consecutive revisions. The committee reported it would submit the John Jay press-box plans to Albany and discussed the need for a construction manager for next summer's projects. Traffic flow at Myers Corners Elementary remains under discussion.
Committee members in attendance included district staff, board members and community members who have participated in two meetings noted in the report. The Capital Improvement Committee scheduled follow-up discussion on large group instruction-room renovations and a separate committee meeting to deliver details at its Oct. 30 session.
The committee report was informational; no new board-level approvals were recorded for the capital items during the Oct. 20 meeting.
