County staff reported the results of a competitive bidding process for two bridge rehabilitation projects and asked the commission to approve contracts with Ohlmeyer Construction.
Staff described two projects: the Box‑beam (Bridge 220, on 280th/5th Davis Road/West End Bridge 220) and Bridge 390 (BSM‑390, a KDOT project). Engineer estimates were discussed during the staff presentation; staff said the apparent low bids from Brian Ohlmeyer and Ohlmeyer Construction were substantially below the engineer’s estimates.
Commissioners discussed scheduling windows and the need to coordinate with the county service department and KDOT to identify start dates and to protect county infrastructure (water lines and other utilities) before work begins. County staff said completion windows were included in the bid packages (the Box Bridge at roughly 90 days, Bridge 390 at a longer working‑days period) and that they would follow up with the contractor and the county service department to set start dates and to arrange any required pre‑work inspections.
The commission voted to approve awarding both bridge contracts to Ohlmeyer Construction and authorized the county to move forward with contract execution and signature.
