Board approves curriculum purchases, contract amendments and audited financials in consent vote

Dr. Michaud, presenting the finance summary, outlined the consent items and said the district’s audited financial statements produced unmodified opinions and showed a fund balance from June 2025 of about 21 percent of annual expenditures. “The end result...is a fund balance from June 2025 of about 21 percent of our annual expenditure,” Dr. Michaud told the board.
Items included in the consent package (amounts and funding sources as stated for the board):
- A one-year subscription to the Connected Mathematics Project for grades 6–8, amount not to exceed $49,350 from the general fund (curriculum review period).
- An amendment to the contract with Parkway Electric and Communications to add CareHawk units in additional district buildings (Fine Arts Center, Aquatic Center, transportation facilities), an amount not to exceed $250,000 charged to 2021 and 2023 capital project funds. The presenter said the original contract (previously about $3.5 million) did not include units in some occupied non-instructional buildings.
- A one-year extension of the district’s snow-removal contract with Katyberg Verde, amount not to exceed $292,065 from the general fund.
- A paving contract awarded to A1 Asphalt Incorporated for repaving a small district lot (Avista staging area), low bid $80,100 from 2023 capital projects.
- Purchase of furniture for the Forest Hills Central media center, amount not to exceed $101,170 from 2025 capital projects (some existing furniture to be reused in the new media center; purchases to fill gaps identified in the redesign).
- A refunded property tax payment to Kent County of $76,971.42.
- Approval of the district’s audited financial statements for the prior year, presented by Manner Kesterason (audit firm). The audit report carried unmodified opinions, and presenters said annual variances produced a stronger-than-expected fund balance.
Board members approved the consent group on a roll-call vote; the meeting transcript records affirmative roll-call responses from members present and shows the motion carried.
