During the public-comment portion of the Oct. 27 meeting, Pastor John Bouquet of Ashland addressed the Ashland City Schools Board of Education about the Lifewise program and his interest in civic study.
Bouquet said he had prepared printed copies of the U.S. Constitution for each board member and a copy of the 1952 U.S. Supreme Court decision he referenced as “Zorak versus Clausen.” The Supreme Court case the pastor likely intended is Zorach v. Clauson (1952); the transcript recorded an alternate spelling. Bouquet also told the board he had met with Joel Penton for a recent review and said Lifewise now operates in 35 states and in “over 1,500 schools.”
Bouquet thanked the board and district leadership for their work and closed his remarks with a prayer, asking a blessing for the superintendent, board members, principals, employees, students and families.
The board received the comments as part of the public-comment period. No board action was taken in response during the meeting.
