The Grand Rapids Public Schools Finance Committee voted to forward three donation items to the full School Board: a scoreboard donation for Ottawa Hills High School Athletic Boosters Club, a Safe Routes to School mini grant for Museum High School, and sponsorship from the district’s group fund to send staff to the Model School Conference.
Committee members described the Ottawa Hills project as supported by multiple donors: Meyer (donating scoreboards), Consumers Credit Union (assisting with installation costs) and several smaller donors that together will fund the project. Committee members expressed support for expediting the donation so the equipment could be installed before the fall athletic season.
The Safe Routes to School item is a small mini grant awarded through the Michigan Fitness Foundation to support Museum High School’s bike shop and related activities; staff and teachers helped write the grant. A committee member praised Museum High School for accommodating bicycles and skateboards on campus and supported the award.
A separate donation will fund travel for district staff to attend the Model School Conference out of state; committee members said the Model Schools group has its own fundraising board and that the group will sponsor about three district staff to attend this summer.
Each donation item was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote and will go to the full School Board for final acceptance and any required reporting.
