Buchanan County Public Schools recognized Grundy High School teacher Rochelle Deal after a presenter from the Boys and Girls Club of Central Appalachia announced Deal had been named Virginia State conservation education teacher of the year by the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Educational Foundation.
The presenter said Deal led STEM education initiatives that connected students to conservation, agriculture and sustainability through partnerships with Big Sandy Soil and Water Conservation and the Boys and Girls Club of Central Appalachia. The presenter described Deal's classroom as "a hub of exploration and discovery where students don't just learn science, they live it," and noted her leadership in farm-to-school programs and participation in NASA plant and moon challenges.
The board and attendees thanked Deal for her work and commitment to students.
