Mayor Mary Robich, acting as the meeting’s liaison, gave a short departmental update on human resources, city buildings and street lights during the Oct. 20 Huron City Commission meeting.
Robich said Shauna (HR) has been in the role about three to four years and that Shannon recently marked one year in a related role. “Shauna has moved into that position, what, 3, 4 years ago. And so, she's doing a very good job,” Robich said. She said the HR office is busy with seasonal hiring and insurance matters and described insurance as a significant cost that often factors into employees’ decisions about retirement.
Robich also noted that city buildings “pretty much kinda run themselves,” that Public Works staff manage routine building needs, and that the city is continuing to receive and respond to street-light requests. “Northwestern Public Service puts them up for us and then we pay the utilities,” she said, adding that utility company resources have been limited and installation has taken longer than residents expect.
The mayor said when agendas are short she will ask commissioners to give similar brief updates as departmental liaisons, and encouraged residents to leave messages with City Hall or contact her office with concerns.
Background and context
Robich framed the update as part of regular liaison duties and emphasized commissioners’ involvement in departmental oversight. She also mentioned the city’s policy of shifting service days for holidays (for example, Veterans Day) and noted the seasonal decisions Public Works must make for green-can pickups depending on weather.
No formal action or votes were recorded on the liaison update; the meeting adjourned after the departmental reports.
