Council approves award for South Tiger River Greenway Phase 1A, including 1,000 feet of concrete and boardwalk

The Greer City Council approved a contract award for the South Tiger River Greenway Trail Phase 1A, awarding the project to Foothills Contracting Services, the city’s project team recommended.

Staff told council that five companies submitted bids and that Foothills was recommended based on experience and a competitive bid. The presentation described Phase 1A as starting at an existing park parking lot with two concrete offshoots of roughly 1,000 linear feet and about 350 feet of boardwalk leading toward the lake; later phases would extend boardwalk and trail to the lake and other park connections.

Staff emphasized the project will be completed in phases (1A, 1B, etc.). Council members asked about site access, hours and security; staff said the master plan includes two gates and the plan is to open the park in the morning and close the gates at dusk, with golf course staff supporting gate operations. Staff also described limited vegetation clearing already done by a trails volunteer group and noted that future phases would address additional trail segments around the golf course and under the Country Club Road bridge.

Council moved, seconded and voted by roll call to approve the award to Foothills Contracting Services.
