Street superintendent reports sidewalks, new sweeper maintenance and upcoming sidewalk projects

He said sidewalk work on Southeast Ninth near the stadium is underway and the city is waiting for the school to finish its portion before crews attach the city sidewalk. The superintendent reported a wheelchair ramp, crosswalk and lighting near the stadium are in place and that lighting appears brighter following a bulb or LED upgrade.
The department has been using a new street sweeper but found mechanical issues and sent the unit back to its vendor in Oklahoma City for inspection and repairs. The vendor will pick up the sweeper at no cost, the superintendent said.
Crews replaced a drainage pipe on South Elliott and helped a contractor on Elliott unload delivered materials to keep a local construction project moving. He described additional sidewalk work planned on Southeast Second and noted older sidewalks (some reportedly poured as early as 1942) will be removed carefully and saved when feasible.
The superintendent praised a new soil conditioner attachment used in alleys that reduces hauling and restoration costs but said the cutting tips wear and that he hopes to buy an additional cylinder so crews can swap and repair worn tips without losing productivity. He also said the department installed blocks to allow faster, safer downtown lifting operations instead of using a loader and chain.
Committee members asked about the Elliott Street drainage contractor; the superintendent said survey stakes and elevation work delayed the contractor start briefly and recent rains further postponed work, but he believed crews had begun digging and pipe installation.
