What the board decided: staff will begin scheduling a series of joint meetings starting with the City of Leavenworth and rotating to other municipalities (Lansing, Basehor, Tonganoxie, Linwood/Easton and others), as had been done prior to COVID disruptions. Commissioners asked that staff circulate a proposed agenda so invited entities know topics ahead of time; board members emphasized a collaborative, relationship‑building tone for the sessions.
School districts: commissioners discussed whether to invite school boards. Staff and commissioners recalled limited participation by some districts in prior outreach; they said invitations should be clear about purpose and that direct invitations to school board members (not only superintendents) may be required for productive participation.
Practical considerations: staff noted that live streaming or recording can be a challenge at offsite locations; if necessary the county can arrange a production crew or select sites with existing video capability.
Next steps: staff will contact municipalities to propose dates and request preferred agenda items; the board asked staff to begin with Leavenworth and continue down the earlier rotation.
