Danville holds public hearing on proposed US 150 Corridor Water Commission

Danville City opened a public hearing to consider creation of the US 150 Corridor Water Commission, a proposed independent entity to transport water along about 30 miles of the U.S. 150 corridor and to support regional water availability and economic development.

The hearing officer opened the meeting saying, “We are holding this public hearing to consider whether the US 150 Corridor Water Commission is reasonably necessary or advantageous for the public health, convenience, and comfort of the customers of all the water systems which proposed the creation of the commission.” The commission, as described by city staff, would be a separate entity that would carry its own debt and set rates under Kentucky law rather than putting new debt on the City of Danville.

Why it matters: City and project presenters said the transmission line is intended to expand water availability and redundancy across multiple water systems on the corridor, to support regulatory compliance and to attract state or federal grant funding for a large regional infrastructure project. City staff described the project as enabling capacity for potential industrial development and to increase supply and resiliency for wholesale water customers along the corridor.
