Eagle Scout donates flag-retirement boxes; township honors retiring firefighter

Macomb Township recognized two community service items during its Oct. 8 meeting.
Eagle Scout Dane Augustitis was honored for donating three U.S. flag-retirement boxes to the Macomb Township Fire Department, providing a box at each of three stations and noting an additional box at Town Hall. Chief (presenter) described the project and read a statement from Augustitis in which he said he was inspired while earning his fire-safety merit badge and wanted to "give back to my community, support our first responders, and show gratitude to those who protect our freedom."
The board also recognized Firefighter Steve Anderson on his retirement after 28 years of service to Macomb Township. The chief said Anderson was hired Oct. 7, 1997, moved to part-time Jan. 1, 2024, and retired Oct. 7, 2025. The chief thanked Anderson for responding to a high percentage of calls, contributing thousands of training hours and serving at community events.
Supervisor Justin Viviano and trustees thanked Augustitis and Anderson for their service; Anderson received a helmet as a token of appreciation.
