Macomb Township board approves street-lighting SADs, rezoning, ordinance rescission, hires and consent judgment

At its Oct. 8 meeting the Macomb Township Board of Trustees adopted two street-lighting special assessment district (SAD) resolutions, approved a rezoning request, rescinded a special-events zoning provision, authorized personnel hires and approved a consent judgment requiring removal of an unlawful patio.
The Macomb Township Board of Trustees on Oct. 8 voted on a slate of items ranging from special assessment districts to personnel hires and a court consent judgment.
The board adopted resolutions creating street-lighting special assessment districts (SADs) for Deerbrook Site Condominiums Phase 2 and Wolverine Country Club Estates 2 (site condominium phases 6, 7 and 8). Clerk Christy Posey called the roll for the Deerbrook resolution; all members present voted yes. The Wolverine Country Club Estates 2 resolution passed on a similar roll call vote.
The board also approved the rezoning of parcels 0825376005 and 0825476005 (northwest corner of 21 Mile Road and Fairchild Road) after discussion and a planning commission recommendation, and rescinded section 10.0349 (special events) from the zoning ordinance to avoid duplication after a separate vendors/solicitors ordinance was adopted earlier this summer.
On personnel, the board approved hiring two full-time firefighters (recommended: Keaton Carlson and Justin Bearden) and a purchasing specialist (Nicole Nilsen), with a proposed start date of Oct. 27.
The board approved a consent judgment in Macomb Township v. Plumage, Macomb County Circuit Court case No. 25-001678-CC, requiring removal of a patio/basketball-court-style structure that violated setback requirements; the agreement requires the property owners to remove the structure within 30 days or allow the township to remove it at their cost.
