Sedona City Council on Thursday selected four applicants for interviews to fill a currently vacant council seat and scheduled the interview session for the Nov. 13 council work session.
Using a simple selection process, the council identified the four candidates with the most votes among members: Alan Affeld, Jean Boulet, Charlotte Hosseini and Ernest (Ernie) Stroud Jr. Council members said they chose those candidates because they demonstrated recent civic engagement, experience with city commissions or clear familiarity with council priorities, and they asked staff to confirm availability and to circulate interview logistics.
The interviews will be conducted in public session. Council asked that applicants not listen to other candidates’ interviews; staff will make procedural arrangements to avoid overlap. Each candidate will be given a set amount of time for questions and follow‑up; councilors indicated they expect the session to begin at 1 p.m. and to include short breaks and a period for deliberation after the interviews.
Councilors also asked staff to update interview questions (for example, to include a prompt about understanding permanent-base adjustment/home-rule implications) and to ensure candidates know the expectation that they be prepared to serve for a short, defined term until the next election cycle. The clerk’s office will confirm the candidates’ availability and send instructions for the Nov. 13 session.
