The Eagle Police Department introduced Community Service Officer (CSO) Scott Pace at the Oct. 28 council meeting, and Police Chief Travis Ruby highlighted Pace’s long law‑enforcement career, awards and experience in community policing.
Chief Ruby said Pace joined the department after a long career with the Santa Monica Police Department and the Ada County Sheriff’s Office; Ruby described Pace’s roles in parking enforcement, as a neighborhood resource officer, field training officer and traffic collision investigator. Ruby also recounted a 2006 incident in which Pace and a partner were shot at during a pursuit and later received a Medal of Valor from the Santa Monica Police Department, and he noted Pace was honored in 2009 with an Excellence in Community Policing Award from Los Angeles County for creating a successful neighborhood‑resource program.
Pace, who addressed the council briefly, said he moved to Eagle after retiring from California law enforcement and said he looks forward to serving the community. Chief Ruby and council members praised the department’s hiring process and the depth of applicants.
The hire fills a community services position that the department had restructured after a deputy’s retirement; Chief Ruby said the internal hire sped the process because many background steps were previously completed.
The council and attendees welcomed Pace and his family. The appointment is an operational staffing matter and no council action was required.
