The Sioux Falls School District 49-5 Board of Education heard a first reading of revisions to 11 policies and accompanying regulations as part of a routine five-year review cycle.
Brett, speaking on behalf of the policy review committee, outlined the proposed updates and said most changes were language cleanups and reference updates. He listed policy identifiers and topics affected: safe and secure environment (no change), emergencies and safety drills (minor reference changes and revised records storage options), EHAA (personally identifiable information, no change), IG (curriculum development, adoption and review — language cleanup and removal of a static curriculum review schedule), IKB (homework clarifying language), IKE (promotion, retention and acceleration — added student-centered language), ILD (student surveys clarifying language), communicable infectious disease policy (minor position reference change), homeless students (reference changes and an added existing dispute-resolution form), and KEA (public concerns/complaints language cleanup).
Brett said the items are up for a first reading and will be available on the board’s website; they will return for a second reading and final approval at the next board meeting. Board members noted the district’s practice of vetting policies through the superintendent’s cabinet and encouraged public input between readings.
