The Adams 12 Five Star Schools Board voted Oct. 22 to adopt a proclamation declaring November 2025 National Runaway and Homeless Youth Awareness Month and invited staff from the Student and Family Outreach Program (SFOP) to describe services for highly mobile students.
Lee Hermo (listed in the meeting as Lee Hermoa), identified as a co-leader of the student and family outreach program and the district's McKinney-Vento homeless liaison, and Melissa Perrine, co-lead, described the program's work supporting students experiencing homelessness or high mobility. Hermo said she has served as the district's lead McKinney-Vento liaison for nine years and thanked the board and senior leadership for support.
Perrine noted that the team recently moved into a new Student and Family Resource Center and invited board members and the public to an open house on Nov. 18 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., including an experiential component that will simulate conditions a student living in a motel might experience.
Board members praised the outreach work and tied it to earlier discussion of food insecurity, noting that the SFOP operates year-round to support students who otherwise might be unseen outside high-profile crises. The proclamation passed by unanimous aye votes.
Ending: The district emphasized the SFOP's ongoing role in connecting students with services and encouraged board members to attend the Nov. 18 open house.
