Cleveland staff told to adopt state data-privacy template and complete training before year-end

A council member summarized the requirements: a governmental entity must “initiate a data privacy program before 12/31/2025” and “obtain and process only the minimum amount of personal data reasonably necessary to achieve a specified purpose,” language taken from the state template staff displayed during the meeting.
Staff said the town already collects some personal information for billing and online payments and that the state template aligns with GRAMA and records-management rules; the mayor and two staff members were instructed to take the online training and to return a written statement that all required staff have completed the training. Staff said they would use the state template as the basis for the town’s privacy policy and would post an updated privacy notice on the town website.
