Facilities update: field house open, Fine Arts wing progressing; weather delays affect Lake Wylie and Liberty Hill schedules

The board received the monthly facilities report outlining construction progress and schedule impacts on multiple projects across the district.

Doctor Hawkins and staff said the district’s new field house and fitness/classroom spaces are occupied and in use, with a few finishing items — lockers and punch-list work — remaining. Hawkins invited board members to sign up for on-site visits.

The Fine Arts wing adjacent to the ninth-grade campus (future Roosevelt Middle) was reported to be under construction with roof steel in place; interior work remains. A drone “flyover” and photos shown to the board documented progress.

The Lake Wylie High School and Liberty Hill Elementary projects have experienced weather-related delays owing to rain and recent storms; Hawkins said contractors have submitted delay requests and staff will negotiate those days. He described the project schedule as tight (he used the term “DEFCON 3” metaphorically) and said project managers will continue to monitor progress and report any schedule risk to the board.

Hawkins provided aerial views of the combined Lake Wylie/Liberty Hill campus site and pointed to parking, athletic fields and circulation areas under construction. He said the building pad at Liberty Hill was nearing completion and that pours were expected in the coming weeks, contingent on weather.

Board members had no formal action on these updates; Hawkins said he would notify the board if the district changes the schedule or raises the project urgency level.
