District reports progress on Field House, Fine Arts wing and Lake Wylie/Liberty Hill construction; weather causes some schedule pressure

Doctor Hawkins (facilities) briefed the board on multiple construction and facility projects across the district, including the recently opened field house, the Fine Arts wing at the future Roosevelt Middle site, and large-scale work at the Lake Wylie High and Liberty Hill Elementary campus.
Hawkins said the field house fitness and classroom spaces are occupied and in use, although a few items (lockers and finish work) remain outstanding. He invited board members to sign up for site visits.
At the Fine Arts wing for the future Roosevelt Middle School, Hawkins reported that steel work is on the roof and the building is not yet ‘‘dried in’’ but is advancing. He played drone flyovers and noted interior block and masonry work in progress.
At the Lake Wylie High/Liberty Hill campus, Hawkins said weather related to storm Helene and recent snow has produced some schedule pressure and contractor delay requests; the administration will negotiate days and monitor the project’s DEFCON schedule level. The building pad for Liberty Hill is nearing completion and Hawkins said he expected concrete pours in the coming weeks.
Hawkins showed aerial flyovers of the complex, including student and bus entrances, administrative and fine arts areas, athletic fields and parking, and said progress continues despite the weather. He promised to notify the board if the project DEFCON rating rises and urged continued prayers for good weather as work continues.
No votes were required on the update; Hawkins asked whether board members had questions and noted logistics for future site visits to tour the new field house and construction sites.
