The commission postponed consideration of a $178,329 proposal to replace the pyramid skylights on the Clovis Carver Public Library roof.
Purchasing and project staff, represented by Mister Hohalt, explained the library's reroof project requires the existing skylights be removed and replaced and that the current skylight product is a large-sheet system similar to material used at the Aquatic Center. WWRC, the general contractor on the reroof, presented a quote from Powers Products for specialized skylights; Hohalt said shop drawings have a five- to six-week lead time, with fabrication of 18+ weeks after approval.
Commissioner Paula questioned the per-skylight cost (approximately $23,000 each for 12-by-12 skylights) and asked whether other subcontractor quotes had been solicited. Commissioners and staff agreed more subcontractor pricing and confirmation of alternatives should be sought. Commissioner Paula moved to postpone the item to the commission's next meeting in February to allow WWRC and staff to obtain additional bids; the mayor Pro Tem seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Staff noted the project timing could stretch because of the vendor lead times and that the contractor will need the skylights available before the raised curbs are left exposed on the roof; WWRC was asked to obtain additional subcontractor information before the next meeting.
