Clovis commission accepts FY24 audit, auditors report clean opinion

Finance Director Leanne Melanson presented the audit to the commission and introduced Farley Venter of Hinkle and Landers, the lead auditor. Venter told the commission the firm issued unmodified opinions on the city's financial statements and on major federal programs, including COVID-related funds. He said the firm proposed a number of standard adjusting entries during the audit but reported "no disagreements with management" and "no findings to report" for the year.
The audit presentation covered the scope of the auditors' work, disclosure of accounting policies, proposed adjusting entries and upcoming accounting standards that could affect future reporting (compensated absences and other GASB updates). Melanson thanked her staff for completing the audit and noted it had been approved by the state auditor and cleared the required five-day waiting period.
Commissioner Jones moved approval of the resolution; Mayor Pro Tem Bryant seconded. The vote was unanimous.
The commission directed staff to distribute two signed copies of the resolution (one for the commission book and one to the Department of Finance and Administration) as part of the usual post-adoption filing.
Notes: the auditors identified 23 proposed adjustments management was asked to record and indicated several non‑adjusting proposed entries during fieldwork; Venter described the audit as "straightforward" and "smooth," and emphasized the clean results.
