Council approved the jobs and economic development committee recommendation to allocate $750,000 from the city recovery funds toward construction costs associated with Do Greater CharlotteTriant Creative Lab's Uptown location at 500 N. Tryon Street.
Councilmembers said the program will expand access to equipment, training and entrepreneurship supports for digital media, marketing, design and creative tech. Councilmember Malcolm Graham and Mayor Pro Tem Dante Anderson highlighted committee review and private-sector collaboration; Councilmember Victoria Watlington and others thanked Do Greater staff and youth participants and praised the organizationfor workforce development work.
The council vote was unanimous. Staff will negotiate the grant agreement and the organization will proceed with construction and program planning in coordination with city staff.
"This is a space that will be right in the heart of Uptown...a cultivator of digital media, marketing, design, entrepreneurial community and creative tech," Councilmember Anderson said.
