Mahtomedi board approves donations totaling $17,455.41 and adopts superintendent, board goals

Mahtomedi Public School District's School Board approved several routine and planning items during its Oct. 27 regular meeting, including $17,455.41 in donations and grants and the district's superintendent and board goals.

The board voted to approve the meeting agenda and consent agenda at the start of the session. Director Peterson moved to approve the agenda; Director Dohmen seconded. The consent agenda was approved with a second by Director Peterson.

The board then approved donations and grants for September totaling $17,455.41. The motion to accept the donations and grants was moved and seconded; the board voted to carry the motion. According to the board, the funds will be used "to further the mission of the school district and are used towards the wishes of the donor." The district did not specify individual donors in the public motion.

Members also reviewed and adopted the superintendent goals, which the board said are aligned with the district strategic plan and focus on literacy, college and career readiness, the budget process, communications and supporting board learning work. The board goals emphasize implementation oversight of the strategic plan, participation in board learning walks to observe district initiatives, increasing understanding of academic performance and strategies to close gaps, and strengthening business and community partnerships to expand work-based learning. Director Peterson moved to adopt the school board goals; the motion carried.

Board members also confirmed the December retreat date of Dec. 15 and noted the plan to keep the regular December meeting short so the retreat can be the primary focus. The board adjourned at the end of the meeting.
