Public hearing for William Street credit union project rescheduled after notice publication error

The Town Board said it could not open the public hearing for a proposed Empire 1 Community Federal Credit Union building at 2345 William Street because legal notice requirements were not met.

Town staff told the board that the Town’s newspaper did not publish the required notice. As a result, the board left the project on the agenda but will call a new public hearing under a separate resolution to set a new date. The new resolution on the meeting agenda (resolution 2025‑386) would set a new hearing for June 24 if the board passes it.

A resident who asked to speak about procedure said mailed notices to neighbors also contained inconsistent times (a mailed notice showed 5:30 p.m. while the resolution listed 7:00 p.m.). She said the web link for the William Street project pointed to a different project (the Genesee Street project) and that documents were not accessible through her phone.

Dan Young, speaking for staff, said the proposed building would be an additional administration building for the credit union on parcels the applicant is under contract to purchase, and staff would resend correct links to interested neighbors. Hard copies of submitted files are also available at town hall, staff said.

Why it matters: public‑notice requirements are statutory prerequisites to opening land‑use public hearings. Because the notice was not published correctly, the board cannot legally proceed and must re‑advertise the hearing.
