Lakeland District board acknowledges omission of public comment, pledges to include comment at calendared 2025 meetings

The Lakeland District Board of Trustees on Wednesday acknowledged that public comment was omitted from its Oct. 1, 2025 meeting agenda and moved to treat adding public comment to all calendared meetings in 2025 as a cure.

"It was the duty of the board of trustees to provide an opportunity place. For the public to provide input at all meetings it schedules," a board member said during the discussion, describing the omission as unintentional and noting the board posted its annual calendar of regular meetings on the district website.

The board member said the district holds meetings "on the first and third Wednesdays" and that despite some titles on the calendar, those meetings are "classified as regular meetings pursuant to Idaho code." The board moved, and after a second, the motion acknowledging the omission and prescribing the cure carried.

The board framed the cure as a commitment to community engagement. "The board values the input provided by the community as it helps the board create a successful learning environment for the children of our community," the same board member said.

The acknowledgment follows the board's review of its 2025 meeting schedule, when trustees said they determined an agenda-planning oversight led to the omission. The board did not identify any sanctions or personnel actions tied to the omission during the public portion of the meeting.

The board approved the motion by voice vote; no roll-call vote or individual tallies were recorded in the public portion of the transcript for this item.
