Indian Prairie Parents Council outlines districtwide volunteer programs and supports

"The Indian Prairie Parents Council is the umbrella organization for all the PTA and PTSAs within Indian Prairie School District 2 0 4," the representative said, adding that IPPC’s role is "to support the schools, support the volunteers, support the PTAs and the communities with questions they may have about how things are done in IPSD or maybe things that need to be done better."
The representative said IPPC organizes and supports recurring programs. "We do the coat drive every fall. We gather coats from our schools, social workers, and families come through and select coats before the cold Chicago season comes in," they said. Other ongoing efforts include a "families helping families" gift-card drive, school supply drives ahead of the fall term, and snack drives organized at the school-building level.
IPPC also promotes student participation in the National PTA Reflections Contest, a fine-arts competition open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade, and helps organize community-building events such as culture nights, STEAM nights and science fairs.
The representative noted a direct instructional benefit from some activities: "Our PTA funds our field trips. And to be able to have that opportunity for all grade levels to go or even have in school field trips really helps bring the content of what the students learn to the real world."
More recently, the council has worked to bring PTAs and principals together for networking and collaboration, the representative said, and urged more volunteers: "Get involved with your local PTA or PTSA at your building level, and that will naturally extend into involvement with IPPC."
