The committee was told a cultural-historic memorial graphics subgroup will hold a kickoff meeting Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the School Department meeting room; Matt said he will attend in person and bring Colin Dockrill, his office’s graphic designer, to present examples of graphics used in other school projects.
“I'm going to be coming down. I'll be bringing Colin Dockrill from my office. He's our graphic designer, and he's gonna show you some examples of the types of graphics that we've done on other projects,” Matt said.
Separately, committee member Emma reported on a recent tour of Rogers school led by Colleen. Emma said she and Mark Thayer were shown interior features the committee may consider: an auditorium back wall of glass that opens to the common area, multi‑tonal color palettes to reduce the presence of a single dominant color, extensive display cabinets for trophies and artwork, high-mounted tiles in corridors and guidance on room signage and wayfinding because space assignments can change as schools settle into new buildings. Emma also noted the school used cameras in CTE rooms to allow remote viewing during tours.
Security and operational items: Emma reported that staff at Rogers used lanyards and fobs (keys) for entry and suggested the committee consider secure door access approaches for Middletown’s schools; she also said staff recommended installing digital clocks and protecting gym flooring where needed.
Why it matters: the cultural-historical graphics subgroup will develop memorial and commemorative graphics that will be integrated into building interiors; the Rogers visit provided practical examples the committee can draw on for finishes, signage, security and display elements.
Ending: Matt, Colin and the subgroup will meet Friday at 10:30; the graphic examples will inform the committee’s decisions about interior displays and memorial treatment as design and construction proceed.
