The Tiburon Town Heritage and Arts Commission voted on Oct. 28 to change the lower gallery program from two-month rotations to three-month exhibitions for 2026, aiming to give artists and staff more lead time to promote shows. Commissioners said the longer runs should improve publicity and reduce event pressure on volunteers.
Commissioners also agreed to combine the commission’s November and December meetings into a single meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, to avoid scheduling conflicts with the Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks.
On upper-gallery programming, commissioners reviewed a slate of artists who have expressed interest in exhibiting in 2026 and authorized outreach to secure dates. The commission authorized Chair Arjun Gupta to contact painter and local resident Brian Higgins about a March–April slot and asked Gupta to contact the ICB artist group about a future group show. Chair Gupta volunteered to make both contacts.
Commissioners discussed exhibition timing, promotion and reception scheduling. Staff recommended keeping the upper gallery on a two-month cycle to reserve flexibility for fundraising and more artists; the lower gallery move to three months applies only to the lower gallery. Commissioners also discussed staggering receptions so public events do not compete, and staff emphasized that successful shows typically require artist-led promotion and some time on site for the artist to host visitors.
Votes recorded during the meeting included unanimous approval for the combined Dec. 2 meeting and unanimous approval for the lower-gallery three-month schedule. Outreach authorizations for Brian Higgins and the ICB group show were both approved.
Staff will add calendar items to the Dec. 2 agenda and follow up on scheduling and promotional materials with the commissioned artists.
