MSD Southwest Allen County Schools reports Homestead High renovation nearing completion; board selects Hagerman Group for new CTE building

The MSD Southwest Allen County Schools board received a progress update on renovations at Homestead High School and approved the Hagerman Group to serve as construction manager as constructor (CMC) for the district—areer and technical education building.

The project update, presented during the board genda by Doctor Saint John and a project presenter identified in the record as Mr. Wilhelm, included a side-by-side comparison of Google Earth images showing the site before work began (March 2020) and a recent August 2025 image. Presenters pointed to new roofing, expanded parking lots, resurfaced and striped lots, topsoil and landscaping going in, and upgrades to the football field and the former Legacy gym.

He described exterior concrete work and mechanical screen wall fencing that will receive architectural panels, installation of ACM panels on remaining façades, interior finishes in the mezzanine and corridors, and landscaping work now under way.

The board also acted on a separate agenda item to select a construction manager for a new CTE building. Doctor Saint John told the board a five-member selection committee (three administrators and two board members) issued a request for proposals on Sept. 4, received proposals by Sept. 25, shortlisted three firms on Sept. 30 and interviewed candidates Oct. 15. The committee recommended the Hagerman Group for its CMC and CTE experience and for a project team the committee judged to be strong and collaborative. The district plans to finalize an agreement using a standard AIA CMC contract in a subsequent meeting.

Board members moved and seconded the selection and approved the recommendation by voice/hand vote; no opposition was recorded in the transcript.

Why it matters: The CTE building and the Homestead renovation affect instructional spaces and extracurricular facilities used by students at Homestead High and, once built, will house career and technical programs the district is developing.
