Sedona to present exterior changes for Ranger Station Park barn, public hearing set for Aug. 11

Sedona’s Public Works Department will bring proposed exterior changes to the Ranger Station Park barn and house before the Historic Preservation Commission as part of a public hearing scheduled for Aug. 11, staff said at the July 14 meeting.
Most proposed work is interior, staff said, but several exterior modifications require Historic Preservation Commission review and a Certificate of Appropriateness before permits can be issued. Staff has started the public-noticing process and will provide a staff report and summary to the commission ahead of the hearing.
Commissioners asked about a separate shade shelter planned near the playground and requested that designs be made “in character” with the historic buildings where possible, even if the shelter is sited away from the historic structures. Staff said the proposed playground shade shelter would be sufficiently distant from the historic buildings that it likely would not require HPC action; the exterior barn/house changes will be the items for the Aug. 11 public hearing.
Staff directed commissioners to the city projects webpage (sedonaaz.gov/projects) for the Public Works submittal details. The commission added the Ranger Station exterior Certificate of Appropriateness review to its August agenda and will receive the staff report in advance.
